About WNU
Weinan Normal
University (WNU) is situated in the eastern part of Shaanxi
Province, with a 40 minutes drive to Xi¡¯an. Its campuses can be
found in Weinan District of Weinan City.
WNU has long been
authorized to award Bachelor¡¯s Degree to qualified graduates.
Presently it is cooperating with several universities in joint
training postgraduates and doctoral students. A group of
prestigious
leaders, renowned
academicians, experts and scholars are recruited as the Advisors
of the President of WNU. Currently the teaching staffs in the
university goes to 1,198, including 879 full-time teachers, of
whom professors and associate professors accounting for 35%. In
some traditional schools and departments, the rate of teachers
with Master¡¯s Degree accounts for 52.7% and with Doctor¡¯s Degree
for 23.1%. ¡°Weihua Scholars¡±, a leading team in the teaching and
scientific research, forms the backbone of the research in the
university, of whom some have been awarded Science and
Technology Progress Award at state-level or provincial and
ministerial levels. Some are awarded the Outstanding
Contribution Experts, some are experts enjoying Special
Government Allowances, some are doctoral tutors, and some are
¡°Three-Five¡± talents or the Outstanding Teachers of Shaanxi
Province.
The campus
covers an area of 870,000 square meters, with a floor space
about 500,000 square meters. Besides, the university¡¯s real
estate such as the advanced teaching and research equipments
amounts to billions RMB, and the collection of books in the
library amounts to 1,700,000 copies. Currently, the
discipline
structure
of the
university tends to be comprehensive, including 9 main
discipline
subjects, namely, Economics, Law, Education, Literature,
History, Science, Engineering, Management and Arts. Besides,
there are 11 colleges, 29 departments and 49 majors. Now
Students in WNU come from 31 different provinces, and the number
of the full-time students rises to 16,216.
Great importance is
attached to the discipline construction in Weinan Normal
University. Up to now, the university has a group of
Provincial-level Key Discipline Subjects, State-level or
Provincial-level Specialty Majors, Provincial-level Fine
Courses, Provincial-level Bilingual Model Courses,
Provincial-level Innovative Experiment Bases for Teaching,
Provincial-level Model Teaching Center for Experiment and the
Provincial-level Teaching Teams. Currently the university has 30
research institutes, of which 20 is operated at provincial or
ministerial levels.
WNU has great
potentials carrying on scientific research. Many teachers or
researchers conducted the research projects supported by the
National Social Science Fund, the National Natural Science Fund,
the National Soft Science Research Fund, the National
Post-doctoral Science Fund, etc. Besides, many researchers are
funded by Ministry of Education or the relevant state-level
Ministries, quite many are funded by Shaanxi Province or the
local government. The achievements in the research can be seen
from a large number of prizes won at different levels. For
example, some prizes are awarded at state-level or by the
Ministry of Education and the relevant Ministries; others are
the Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy & Social
Sciences of Shaanxi Province, the Science & Technology Award,
the Science and Technology Progress Award, the National Defense
Science and Technology Progress Award, the University Science
and Technology Award, Teaching Achievement Awards, etc.
Standing at a new
starting point, Weinan Normal University is ready to have a new
race under the leadership of the Party Committee of WNU. With
all the teachers and the students of WNU uniting and working
together, WNU will further commit to the scientific development
and quality promotion, following the motto ¡°To Learn is to Use,
Keep Diversity in Universality¡±, inspired by the school spirit
¡°Striving and Enjoying Each Day¡±, build itself into a
comprehensive university on teaching and research, esp. a
comprehensive university with characteristics in teachers
education.
